This next set is more about bettering my life and myself. I often get lazy in life. I need to step it up. I want to be physically, mentally and financially in a good place as I enter my thirties. 15. Eat out less. At least a month consistently of no eating out during the week (let's face it, I will never not eat out on the weekend. I don't cook that well!). Matt and I both hate to cook. We go through spurts of being good about cooking at home during the week and then inevitably we get busy and start eating out again. This is a cycle that I hope to fix. I want to find some new recipes to try (we also get tired of our favorite meals).
16. Stop drinking soda (at least for 30 days, then it becomes habit right?). One of my biggest vices is soda. Oh how I love it. I now drink lattes, mochas, etc., but soda is for sure my favorite beverage. I want to aim to stop drinking soda so regularly...maybe even cut down on caffeine in general. It's not good for the heart.17. Start (and stick with) a consistent workout routine. Let's face it, since we've gotten married, I've gotten fat, really fluffy! Something needs to happen and it's starting this year. I will change my eating habits and more importantly I will start exercising again. At some point, Matt and I want kids, and I want to be healthy enough to carry a baby and then raise a child. I'm going to start with adjusting my schedule at work on Fridays to for now to come in later, leave later. Because of the parking situation, I still have to leave my house around the same time. I'll then have an extra hour to work out at my building's gym (which has a nice shower and locker room thankfully). Small steps right?!
18. Save weekly so that I can take a trip for my 30th birthday! Between eating out and my love of Kohls, it's hard for us to save. I work at a non-profit and we both have long commutes--we don't make much money. My cousin posted a nice savings plan online at the start of the year. It seems doable and would provide Matt and I the majority, it not all, we need to take a trip for my 30th birthday. After all the weddings and family trips we've taken over the last year years, we need an us vacation to somewhere we want to go. I'm thinking News Orleans for New Years! Let's make it happen!
19. Shorten my commute, and love my job. Ideally, this would already be the case, but it is not. When I got laid off back in May, I got a new job in D.C. I don't mind the job itself, but the commute sucks. I do get to read while I'm commuting, but ideally I want to relocate closer to home. We like the area we live in and would want to settle down "out in the 'burbs." Operation new job is on; fingers crossed!
20. Save as much a possible so we can own a home soon! Don’t shop for a month. Matt and I live in a tiny one-bedroom apartment. It suits us fine for now, but we are so crammed and have no extra space. I desperately want to buy our own place and have more space. I would love an extra bedroom for guests; two bathrooms would be great! As I stated above, I love to shop. This year, I will aim to not shop for "extra" things for a month. I tried this when Matt and I were both in new jobs this summer and it worked ok, but I'll admit, I didn't have my heart in it. I'm dedicated this year to making it our last in this little home.
