New Favorite Cozy Author

I've recently started taking advantage of the "LendMe" feature on Nook. I have befriended readers on my Nook that I found in my groups from GoodReads. My Nook friends from the GoodReads cozy mysteries group especially have tons of books that I am interested in. I sometimes have to remember I can only read so much! The LendMe feature allows friends to borrow books for up to two weeks.

So I was browsing through the LendMe books from my Nook friends and found one called, "Ghost in the Polka Dot Bikini" by Sue Ann Jaffarian. I was instantly intrigued. The book was the second in a series, so I searched for the first one to see if anyone had it and someone did! I borrowed, "Ghost a la Mode" and loved it.

The premise of the series is that Emma just finds out that she can commune with ghosts, in particular her ancestor "Granny Apples." The two pair up, along with another local clairvoyant, Milo and help solves murders. Ok, so that's my two sentence take on it.

Here's the real recap of the first book:
Granny was famous for her award-winning apple pies-and notorious for murdering her husband Jacob at their homestead in Julian, California. The only trouble is, Granny was framed, then murdered. For more than one hundred years, Granny's spirit has been searching for someone to help her see that justice is served--and she hits pay dirt when she pops in to a seance attended by her great-great-great-granddaughter, modern-day divorced mom Emma Whitecastle. Together, Emma and Granny Apples solve mysteries of the past--starting with Granny's own unjust murder rap in the final days of the California Gold Rush. Along with a sprinkling of history, this spirited new mystery series features the amateur sleuth team of Emma Whitecastle and the spirit of her pie-baking great-great-great-grandmother, Granny Apples.

What a great new series to find right before Halloween. After reading the first in the series, I had to then read the one that caught my attention in the first place. I'd say the second one was even better than the first. A really interesting story that didn't disappoint.

Here's a sinopsyse from GoodReads:
Imagine spending eternity with your backside hanging out--that's what Emma Whitecastle and Granny Apples can't help but think when they meet the ghost of Tessa North frolicking in the surf off Catalina Island. Tessa, a young starlet who died on the island in the 1960s wearing nothing but a polka dot bikini, won't cross over until "Curtis" comes for her. To help the winsome, bikini-clad spirit, Emma and Granny must find out who Curtis is and how Tessa died. Their investigation takes them from the grit and glamour of Hollywood to Kennedy-era political intrigue-before hitting dangerously close to home.

Along with a sprinkling of history, this spirited new mystery series features the amateur sleuth team of Emma Whitecastle and the spirit of her pie-baking great-great-great-grandmother, Granny Apples.

I can't wait to read the third book, "Gem of a Ghost." Ok, so I have to wait a little because I have decided to join my apartment complex book club--something I've always wanted to do, but never actually done in person! I'm so excited! Their first book is "Inferno" by Dan Brown, so I best get to reading as it's much longer than my usual cozy mysteries. I love Dan Brown though, so I'm excited this is the first book.

Back to Sue Ann, she has another series that I'm interested in starting too. The main character is Oledia Grey. Here's brief description: Too big to miss--that's Odelia Grey. A never-married, middle-aged, plus-sized woman who makes no excuses for her weight, she's not super woman just a mere mortal standing on the precipice of menopause, trying to cruise in an ill-fitting bra. She struggles with her relationships, her crazy family, and her crazier boss. And then there''s her knack for being in close proximity to dead people . . . .

I'll have to put that on my "must-read" list as well!

Has anyone else read anything good lately? What new authors are you loving?
