When the Hunger Games came out in the theaters, Matt HAD to see it! He had read all three books in the series and he was dying to see the movie. I had heard a brief summary of the book and really was not interested in seeing the movie. Being a good wife though, I went and I still was not a fan. After seeing the movie, I could not see how this series with such a horrific "game" as the concept could make people so crazed. I was sad and then outraged as I watched the movie. I could only imagine the books were worse!
I was told by those that had read the books to give them a shot and so I embark on my Hunger Games journey.
I have finished the first book, which I know how it ends obviously, but I'm a believer in always reading the books before the movie (so me seeing the movie first is backwards for me!). The book was better than the movie. I truly felt for the characters, especially Katniss.
If you haven't read the book or seen the movie, maybe stop reading my post now so I won't ruin anything for you.
Here are my few thoughts are after reading the first book.
First, I'm still just as annoyed at the "game" as I was when I watched the movie. The thought that the gamemakers could affect the game just really bothered me. I mean, these kids are already forced to kill one another involuntarily, why throw more into the mix?
After reading the book, I more so than watching the movie wonder about Katniss and Peeta's relationship. I believe that she just used him for the game and this bothered me. Matt, on the other hand, thinks they make a good couple...he also have read all the other books so maybe I should listen to him...Anyways, I say Gale is the way to go...do I sense similar rivalry to the Twilight-Edward vs. Jacob rivalry? Pick your side now! :)
Those are my brief thoughts. I'll at least read the next book and see if my opinion changes. As for now though, I stand by my first thoughts...horrible concept and how can people support this cruelty?
