February 2015 Recap and Photos

February was a hard month for us. We lost my grandma suddenly that month. My grandma had a few times in the past where her heart stopped working properly and she had fluid in her lungs. Well, that happened again on Friday, February 13 and this time my mom and her siblings decided not to take extraordinary measures. When the medicine didn't help reduce the fluid, they knew it was her time to go. My mom's siblings and my cousin made it here to Virginia in time to say good-bye.

So we spent William's first Valentine's Day at the hospital for a little bit. My grandma was a strong lady and held out until that Monday (President's Day). To this day, I still miss her. Later that month, William made his first big car trip. We drove to Ohio for my grandma's funeral. Despite the horrible circumstances, it was nice that much of my extended family got to meet William!

Weather-wise, February was pretty much freezing. Our pipes froze not once but twice (always fun when trying to wash the never ending cycle of bottles).

At the end of January, we had William tested for allergies. He was so good at the allergist! They did a skin test and thought he was allergic to soy and eggs (turns out at our follow-up appointment months later that he wasn't allergic, but we avoided those foods for a while in case he was). The allergist diagnosed William with eczema and gave us a couple different ointments to help with William's face. After some research, the allergist also gave us another antibiotic to try (since the first one didn't help). The second one worked great and William was well on his way to a normal looking face again! Also, we learned the Vaseline is great for babies with sensitive, dry skin. For the remainder of the cold weather, we used Vaseline on William every night until the weather got warmer.

Some growth updates:  He weighed 13 lbs. 8 oz. at his February appointment. Still mostly six-month clothing (some three-month clothes still fit).
