Here's a video of one of William's first big crawls:
The other big thing since my three-month favorites post is that we started introducing solids. Our pediatrician suggested starting with cereal and so far we haven't had much luck with getting William to eat rice cereal plain. So we're a bit old-school and just put it in his bedtime bottle (with a larger nipple) and it's helped him sleep through the night more consistently (yay!). He now goes to bed around 8-8:30 p.m. and wakes up around 6-6:30 a.m. With the latest in sitting up though, William tends to play/whine in his crib some before actually falling asleep. Oh but back to solids, so after weeks of trying cereal with no luck, I tried making my own baby food and William loved it! We tried some store-bought apple sauce at first which made him gag and puke. Then I made sweet potatoes and he loved them. We've since tried carrots, bananas and peas and he's loved them all. The past week has been difficult to get him to settle enough to eat, and we don't push it, so it's slow going with trying new foods. I'm loving making the food though. Some of my favorites are listed below. With that, here are some six-month favorites.
1. Angel Dear Lovey: When William was able to roll over, we started letting him sleep with a lovey. We have three that we've gotten as gifts, but my favorite is the cheetah lovey that Matt's sister gave us. It is so incredibly soft! I love this giraffe one though and contemplate buying another one. haha Best thing about this lovey is that it is machine-washable.
2. Child of Mine by Carter's Newborn Baby Boy Zip Front Sleep n Play: These pajamas are awesome. I have bought quite a few from Walmart because they are soft, fairly inexpensive and they ZIP! Whomever invented the snaps for kids clothes should be shot. Zippers are by far the best way to go especially for pajamas because ain't nobody got time at 3 a.m. to be snapping a kid up.
3.The First Years Newborn to Toddler Reclining Feeding Seat: We snagged two of these highchairs at a yard sale in my sister's neighborhood last year. Two for $20. Amazing! We have one and my mom has one. We finally began solids with William and so we use this daily. It's worked well. I have nothing to compare it to though. I like the fact that we can wash the seat cushion in the washing machine and that it can sit on one of our chairs instead of adding another chair to our dining room.
4. Manhattan Toy Winkel Rattle and Sensory Teether Activity Toy: My sister's friend gave us this and William loves it! When he was a bit younger, it was great because he still couldn't grab things very well.
5. OXO Tot Baby Blocks: So I have taken the plunge to try to make some of William's baby food. A bought two sets of these blocks and they are amazing! You can store, freeze and heat the baby food all in this one container...oh and feed from it. And the containers are super easy to clean. I'm not a huge fan of plastic, but these seem to easily clean. I can't say enough about these. I'm also just really excited that I am able to make William's food. I'm not that much of a chef so it's amazing for me.
6. Washington Nationals Onesies: Baseball season is upon us! I had snagged some Nationals onesies at the end of last season and we were also given some by Matt's brother so I feel like we have a Nationals onesie for just about every day of the week (which is about how often William watches the games with my dad! haha).
7. PEVA bibs: These bibs have held up well so far with William's constant licking them...why he wants to eat his bib vs. the actual food is beyond me. The struggle is real some days.
8. VTech Click and Count Remote: William is obsessed with remotes, phones, pretty much anything electronic. So we thought we'd get him his own remote. This one was cheap, which is nice and keeps his attention somewhat. He still prefers the real thing, but oh well.
9. Carter's Rompers: With warm weather upon us (here in Virginia we can go from 90 one day back to 55 the next, but I think the summer weather is here to stay soon...maybe), we needed some more cool outfits for William. Matt's mom gave us this cute romper and I am in love! I had a few other rompers and they are quite possibly the easiest thing to throw on William for those warm days. The kid has tons of clothes, but I find myself wanting more of these. They are super light-weight too which will be crucial in those hot summer days.
10. Honest Company baby wipes: William has such sensitive skin. If I forget to put Vaseline on his face one morning or evening, his little face gets red by the end of the day. I wash his face every morning and evening with just a warm wash cloth. For feedings though, we wanted something easy to wipe his face. These wipes have been the only thing other than just plain water that haven't made his face break out! While we can't use all Honest Company products on his skin, these have worked great and I highly recommend them for babies with sensitive skin. I bought them directly from the Honest Company's website, but they are also available at Target (and Amazon, but I think there's a delivery fee and who wants to pay that!).
