Gosh, I feel old. Maybe I shouldn't say that, there are plenty of people older than me...but I will say nothing makes you feel older than a high school reunion, where you return to your high school and realize you are so not like teenagers these days. Hhmm, probably a good thing. Gosh those teenager years were dramatic...I mean, they were great...haha.
Anyways, as I've mentioned, I had my 10-year reunion back in October. I helped plan the events so I was especially involved. We had a weekend of events since it was our homecoming weekend as well.
On Friday, there was a parade and football game (and bar gathering afterward). It was fun to see the school spirit and experience a high school football game after so many years away. The theme for the class floats was board games, just like it was for our senior year!
On Saturday, we did a tour of the school (oh my, so different!) and family/class picnic, followed by a bar gathering that night. The tour was probably the most unexpected surprise of the whole weekend. I had arranged for anyone interested to do a tour of the school, since it's gone through a complete renovation since we graduated. There were only four of us who showed up, but it was awesome! The Dean of Students (um, they have a dean now??) gave us an hour and a half long tour! We completely did not recognize parts of the school.
Mid-way through, some Class of 1983 classmates met up with us. They were one of the first classes to graduate from South Lakes so it was fun to hear their stories and perspectives of how things are now.
All in all, the weekend was pretty casual. Classmates seemed to be non-committal this time around so it worked out. I had a great time catching up with old friends and meeting new ones.
