Defending Jacob
By William Landay
Why I Picked It: A former coworker of mine read the book Defending Jacob and loved it--gave it rave reviews. So when I saw the book was available on audiobook from the library, I thought I'd check it out.
Synopsis: Andy Barber has been an
assistant district attorney in his suburban Massachusetts county for
more than twenty years. He is respected in his community, tenacious in
the courtroom, and happy at home with his wife, Laurie, and son, Jacob.
But when a shocking crime shatters their New England town, Andy is
blindsided by what happens next: His fourteen-year-old son is charged
with the murder of a fellow student.
My Thoughts: I really wanted to like this book. The book is told at parts from court proceedings and working backward kind of so that was interesting and made it intriguing making you wonder if Jacob really did it. In the end though, I was just really waiting for something to happen in this book and it didn't. I would say there was a lot of hype and no real climax to this book and that's what let me down. There is a twist at the end that is surprising, but really that didn't save this book for me.
Genre: Mystery/Thriller
