Review: A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty

A Grown-Up Kind of Pretty
By Joshilyn Jackson

Why I Picked It: I absolutely love Joshilyn Jackson; she's one of my favorite authors! I don't know why I've slacked on reading her last two books; they aren't new anymore. But finally I read the latest. I shall soon read the only book of hers I haven't read, Backseat Saints.

Synopsis: A powerful saga of three generations of women, plagued by hardships and torn by a devastating secret, yet inextricably joined by the bonds of family. Fifteen-year-old Mosey Slocumb-spirited, sassy, and on the cusp of womanhood-is shaken when a small grave is unearthed in the backyard, and determined to figure out why it's there. Liza, her stroke-ravaged mother, is haunted by choices she made as a teenager. But it is Ginny, Mosey's strong and big-hearted grandmother, whose maternal love braids together the strands of the women's shared past--and who will stop at nothing to defend their future.

My Thoughts: You all know that I love a good mystery. This story is just that. Not only is it a good mystery, it also shows a great relationship between three generations of women, as well as great southern writing. I couldn't put this book down, literally! There was so much to this story, but not in a bad way. Jackson definitely had me thinking. I just wanted more when it was done. Joshilyn Jackson never disappoints! I think this is her best novel yet!

For those that have read it, my favorite scene about Mosey's boob (in Roger's car). I absolutely loved, loved, loved it!

Genre: Fiction
Rating: 5/5 stars
